How Physiotherapy Can Support Recovery

4 min read

Recovery from an injury, surgery or a long period of reduced activity rarely happens by simply waiting for time to pass. Structured, guided movement plays an important role in restoring strength, mobility and confidence.

Physiotherapy typically supports recovery in a few key ways: restoring range of motion that may have been lost, rebuilding strength in muscles that have weakened, retraining movement patterns so the body moves efficiently and safely, and helping you return to daily activities, sport or work at an appropriate pace.

A good recovery plan is progressive — starting gently and building up as your body responds — and is adjusted regularly based on how you're doing, rather than following a fixed generic timeline.

If you are recovering from surgery, your physiotherapy plan should always work alongside your surgeon's specific guidance and any precautions they have given you.
